Many of us are looking for ways to lose weight through dieting. And, many of us find that most of our fat is located around our stomachs, so diets for losing stomach fat are what we’re really interested in.
There are many ways to help reduce the fat in your stomach, through a combination of exercise and diets for losing stomach fat.
1. Low carbohydrate diets
Low carb eating is one of the best diets for losing stomach fat. Because low carb diets emphasize minimizing blood sugar spikes, they are very effective for reducing body weight and for making it difficult for our bodies to store fat.
2. The glycemic index diet
The Glycemic Index diet is another of the best diets for losing stomach fat. It, too, focuses on not elevating blood sugar levels, which causes fat storage. It is, however, a little less restrictive than a low carbohydrate diet.
3. Diet that focuses on good fats
Diets promoting eating only good fats, like the Mediterranean Diet, are also good diets for losing stomach fat. These diets require that you avoid the fats that tend to make us fat, such as butter, lard and animal fat, while eating plenty of good fats like olive oil, fish oil and nuts.
You will still need to count calories on this diet to an extent, however, since these fats are high in calories.
4. Low calorie diets
In the end, calories do count. Counting calories and staying within a range that promotes weight loss is still one of the best diets for losing stomach fat.
Just don’t reduce calories too much, or your body will go into starvation mode and you’ll find it more difficult to lose fat. Low calorie diets like Weight Watchers that focus primarily on portion control have been shown to be great diets for losing stomach fat.
5. Diets combined with exercise
Whether you choose low calorie or low carbohydrate diets, the best diets for losing stomach fat are those combined with exercise. Aerobic exercise, performed at least three times per week, burns the fat from our bodies and helps us lose weight.
Though the fat burned will come from all over the body, exercise will help you lose stomach fat. In addition, adding some strength training to your exercise routine can help you reduce the overall fat in your body.
Muscle burns more calories each day than fat. Therefore the more muscular you are, the more calories you can consume without gaining weight. Adding a little lean muscle is a great way to help keep your weight in check.
Unfortunately, spot reducing isn’t really possible. In order to lose stomach fat, you’ll need to reduce overall body fat levels.
Therefore, the best diets for losing stomach fat are those that promote healthy weight loss. You’ll see it in your stomach, of course, but you’ll see it in other parts of your body as well.
